It’s the little things in life that are the sweetest. Those small luxuries we allow ourselves. They can make our day; like a great tasting coffee in the morning, or the perfect breakfast bagel. (Can you tell that my luxuries are food?)
Because these little luxuries are what makes life so sweet, why not fill your home with them. Your home is your palace. And when your palace looks great, you feel great. It all starts with the home. I’m not talking about installing a flashy pool in the garden (though wouldn’t that be great?) or a cinema room. I mean affordable changes you can make to your house to make it a better place to live.
1. A Cinema Room
“Wait, I thought you just said…” You’re right. I did just say no cinema rooms. But try this little luxury hack and you can have one on the cheap. Find a room in your house with a large empty wall. A living room or a bedroom maybe. Buy a cheap projector and link it to your laptop (with a VGA cable). Turn the lights off, scatter some bean bags and cushions on the floor and project your movie onto the wall.
Cheap and fun cinema room!
2. Install Bubble Jets in your Bath
Hot tubs cost a fortune and you need a lot of room for one. But install bubble jets into your existing bath and you get all the fun of a hot tub for half the price. Is there anything more luxurious than your bath, a book and some massaging bubbles? I think not. Things like this might even add value to your property.

Rugs will instantly add a touch of class and luxury to your home. How about a beautiful European Axminster rug in your living room or dining room? They just scream sophistication and you’ll feel like royalty walking on them.
4. Light Fittings
This one sounds boring, but replacing your tired old lampshades with chandelier-style fixtures will add instant luxury. You’ll need a good eye though; there are some tacky chandelier impersonators out there.
Light Fittings part 2: Install dimmer switches. In the evenings, a lower light adds a little sexiness and warmth to your rooms.
5. A Love Seat
These can get quite expensive but if you shop around you’ll find yourself a bargain. There is nothing better than snuggling into a warm, oversized seat with a glass of wine at the end of the day. Or cosying up to your partner by the fire. (Luxury tip: get a fireplace)
6. Coffee Maker
A good coffee-maker is your best friend. Splashing out for one that can make the perfect cappuccino is worth every penny. Get one with a timer and your morning fuel will be sat waiting for you when you wander downstairs bleary-eyed.
So there you have it. Some cheap ways to add luxury to your life. Figure out what little luxuries make you smile and work to incorporate them into your home. Is it food, books, music? Find the little hacks that bring your favourite things into the home.
